Sebelumnya kesampingkan dulu definisi, batasan-batasan yang hebat tentang Pendidikan Karakter. Kesampingkan juga pandangan-pandangan miring yang menyatakan bahwa Pendidikan Karakter hanya untuk menggendutkan anggaran Pendidikan Nasional, tanpa arah, sehingga tuntutan penyediaan sarana prasarana bisa dikesampingkan. Sedianya, pendidikan itu memang ditujukan untuk membangun karakter seseorang, atau lebih tepatnya peserta didik. Sebagai contoh, karakter berfikir logis dapat diberikan atau dibangun melalui mata pelajaran matematika dan bahasa, karakter peduli sesama, dapat diberikan atau dibangun melalui mata pelajaran IPS dan seterusnya.

Sekarang mengapa ada Pendidikan Karakter? Alasan yang paling sering dilontarkan oleh para pemangku kepentingan (anggaran) adalah perlunya penguatan. Singkatnya, Pendidikan Karakter merupakan langkah penguatan pendidikan. Langkah penguatan atau takut dibilang pendidikan gagal?

Important steps taken by schools to educate for character include a focus on disciplinary codes that convey values, classroom rules and curricula where teachers reinforce values, and extracurricular activities in which coaches and sponsors address values through established rules for participants (Huffman, 1995).
